President Donald Trump golfed Saturday for the first time in more than two months, engaging in a personal passion and trying to show how the U.S. can return to normal after states ease lockdowns.

A CNN photojournalist posted photos on Twitter of Trump swinging a club, waving at the camera, and driving, solo, in a golf cart during his three hours at the Trump National Golf Club in Sterling, Virginia. He appeared to be playing in a foursome. The White House doesn’t routinely confirm Trump’s activities at his golf courses.

Beaches will be open for Memorial Day weekend, for better and worse. Yet anything short of normal foot traffic will still mean the end for a lot of small businesses.

Beach towns up and down America’s East Coast are wrestling with similar concerns on the eve of Memorial Day—at once, too many people and, for local businesses, not enough. Mayors like Vaz are in an untenable position: They can’t reopen quickly enough to make their loudest constituents happy, and they can’t do it slowly enough to keep their most vulnerable constituents safe.
